DAY ONE

Guided Tour West Coast of Ireland. Our exploration of Ireland’s Atlantic Coast begins today. To start, we take a leisurely drive through the picturesque landscape of Counties Clare and Galway, towards the village of Cong, in County Mayo, made famous by John Ford’s 1951 classic film “The Quiet Man”, starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. We take a guided tour of the village, visiting locations from the film, including the “The Quiet Man Cottage Museum” and other attractions in the village, such as Ashford Castle, a regular host of lavish celebrity weddings, and Cong Abbey, a 12th Century Augustinian Abbey. After lunch, we travel onwards to the religious shrine of Knock where the Blessed Virgin is said to have appeared in 1879. For our final stop, we overnight in Sligo town, enjoying the rolling hills and rugged beauty of Counties Mayo and Sligo as we go.

DAY TWO:

Our day begins with a visit to enchanting Rosses Point on the Northwest coast of County Sligo, containing one of Ireland’s premier surfing beaches, Strandhill. From here, we travel inland to “Yeat’s Country” where we experience some culture in the birthplace of renowned Irish poet W.B. Yeats. We visit Yeat’s grave at Drumcliff Abbey and enjoy the scenery that inspired Yeat’s poetry, including Ireland’s most distinctive mountain, Benbulbin. Our next stop is Lissadel House, the home place of Constance Markievicz, a leader in the 1916 Easter Rising and the first woman to be elected to Dáil Éireann in 1919.

After lunch in Sligo town, our journey continues to Glencar Waterfall in County Leitrim. The Waterfall, which is situated near Glencar Lake, was romanticised in one of Yeat’s most beautiful poems “The Stolen Child.” We enjoy the scenery on one of the Waterfall’s wooded walks before returning to Sligo town.

DAY THREE

Today we embark on the world famous Wild Atlantic Way. Leaving Sligo town, we travel along the Sligo coast, stopping in the seaside towns of Easkey and Enniscrone.   Journeying on, we explore the soaring cliffs and hidden beaches of the Wild Atlantic Way, stopping as we go to snap lots of photos. Our next stop is the town of Ballina, County Mayo’s largest town hosting a rich variety of restaurants and pubs. After some lunch, we explore the ruins of Moyne Abbey and the 15th century St Muredach’s Cathedral situated on the banks of the River Moy.

We spend plenty of time exploring the town, and its many authentic shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.
